The new (v4) AEGIS Healthcare Security Officer Training course sets the professional standard for Healthcare Security Officers working in NHS and independent healthcare environments across the UK.

The risk-informed training is designed to equip Security Officers with the knowledge and skills to perform safely, lawfully and respectfully in healthcare settings. The learning aligns with UK legislation, national standards, and operational best practice, reflecting the realities of hospital-based security work.

  • Demonstrate effective communication and professional conduct that promotes safety, dignity, and trust.
  • Make proportionate, legally defensible decisions using sound judgement and the National Decision Model.
  • Understand and lawfully apply key legal powers relating to the use of force, stopping, detaining, searching, and seizing items.
  • Work safely in high-risk or emergency situations including fire, violence, missing patients, and Acute Behavioural Disturbance.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to mental ill health and vulnerability in collaboration with clinical teams.
  • Apply safe restraint principles and understand the medical and legal risks associated with restrictive interventions.
  • Record and report incidents accurately and professionally, supporting organisational transparency and CQC compliance.

E-Learning

Total estimated time for completion of e-learning course, including Exams: 8 hours.

Classroom Delivery

Total estimated time for completion via classroom delivery, including Exams: 28.5 hours
