Examination Method: 15 minute Online T/F Exam (80% Pass Mark Required – Delegates must answer 12 of 15 questions correctly to qualify for certification).
Introduction
Healthcare Security Officers working in NHS settings may be required to safeguard patients who present an increased risk of harm to themselves or others. These situations commonly arise in Emergency Departments, mental health assessment areas, or other clinical environments where patients may be distressed, disoriented or experiencing a mental health crisis.
Safeguarding duties may involve supervising patients who are at risk of absconding, self-harming, attempting suicide, or behaving violently. These situations often occur with little warning and require Security Officers to act calmly, professionally and in accordance with clinical direction.
This course provides guidance on how Healthcare Security Officers can perform safeguarding duties safely, lawfully and effectively. It emphasises the importance of communication, vigilance, professional judgement and collaboration with clinical staff.
